Growth for Today & Hope for Tomorrow

Growth is happening on our land in Malawi! The team faithfully tends the maize crop, and we are reminded of the internal growth that is happening within each one of us. The residents are learning how to interact socially with their house-mates & staff, our Source Spokane team is growing in communication, adaptability, and resilient hope, and even the areas of influence we have are expanding to include new agencies! This growth has been consistent and brings us so much hope for what is ahead. We are still in process, still climbing up, branching out and developing. It is good to recognize the growth within our organization and within our own hearts. It is with this mindset that we look into 2023 with expectancy.

Meet Our Staff - Gysell

“My brother in law kept asking me to apply to The Source and I finally gave in when I moved back to Spokane. I was initially studying to be a teacher, mainly because I wanted kids to feel seen, heard, and loved. Teaching didn’t work out so I decided to apply to The Source. Now I get to do what I’ve always wanted to do; love kids! I started working at The Source in the middle of October 2021. I’ve been a line staff and when the opportunity arose, I became Hilltop’s weekend manager!”

“ I connect with showing kids unconditional love. I’ve heard the horror stories about the job but that never steered me away from wanting to work here. A lot of these kids have some sort of abandonment issues and I never want to be another person who left them, even on the hard days. Before I started working at The Source, I imagined that I’d hold grudges from the really bad days but that’s not what I’ve experienced at all. I love these kids. I remind myself and them that each day is a new day so we’ll try again tomorrow.”

“I’ll still give them hugs, tuck them in, and give lots of love to their stuffies even after the bad moments because I want them to know that we’ll get through these hard times together. The process is never going to be easy but I’ll be with them along the way.”

“I’ve learned the most about patience, communication, and forgiveness since working here. I really do believe that these boys have changed me for the better. I think the boys have seen an improvement in my communication. I used to get frustrated easily and fall into a bickering match with a few of them. Now I’ve been able to express how I’m feeling and knowing when I need to disengage or walk away when I catch myself arguing with them.”

We are enormously thankful for Gysell and her heart for the boys at Hilltop!

Prayer Points

On March 1st our company will be represented at FUSE Job Fair, which hosts students from WSU, EWU, Whitworth & Gonzaga. We are looking to recruit employees with interests in Social & Community Development. Pray that our efforts are blessed & connections are made with people who have a passion for this work and would benefit our team.

We are already kicking off our Malawi Outreach 2023 campaign. We will be selecting our team, raising funds for travel and supply costs, and incorporating our Source residents with the effort. Pray that these efforts will be blessed, and let us know if you would like to contribute toward this cause.
