Staff members join in on the art projects in our homes. We learn together, grow together, and laugh at our mistakes together! Being genuine, engaged and present with the residents helps them to experience the ups & downs of life with a caring mentor who models kindness, humility and the courage to keep trying!

Happy New Year 2024!

Our office team hosted a New Year party for all of our residents and staff in mid-January. It was a good time to get-together, providing some fun in the post-holiday slump. We enjoyed dinner together and made glitter sensory bottles with the kids. Despite adding some rooms to our office space, we were still very crowded!, We will probably not meet with all 4 homes inside our office at one time in the future, so it was a fun finale and still a great time to for our office staff to connect with the kids and their staff! Expansion means new creative solutions- so the next event will have to be in a wider space!

Life can hit us in unexpected ways, and leave us reeling. Many of us have back stories that affect our day to day living and add difficulty. Often we utilize coping mechanisms to keep ourselves functioning and able to move forward. But there is a significant difference between coping and healing.

Coping can look like numbing out to the past pains, putting those negative feelings aside, choosing to keep ourselve occupied, distracted, or too busy to have to think about the things that we have been though. Eventually we tire, and those coping mechanisms start to shake. Coping isn’t a long-term solution. We have the ability to cope to get through difficultuies for a season - but coping can never replace healing.

Healing means we make the space to look back and process the pain, the grief, and the loss that we have experienced. It means we allow a renovation to happen within ourselves- we allow ourselves to recognize the cognitive dissonance, and possible false beliefs about ourselves or our past that could be contributing to our current state. When we replace those mindsets with what is true, when we process the pain, we can then step into a place of healing, which means we no longer have to ‘cope’. We may have some scar tissue -trauma does shape us- but scar tissue should be a reminder of the healing instead of a source of pain.

Healing is an arduous journey, it doesn’t happen overnight. It is a step-by-step, courageous exploration of those rooms in our soul we would rather not revisit. But healing is also a destination point, a resolution, a moment when you not only see the light at the end of the tunnel, but begin to live within that light.

We teach healthy coping skills to our staff and to our residents because we recognize that they are a huge help as we walk the journey toward healing, however, we must not create a barrier to our healing by relying on the ‘coping’ to keep us afloat. We must not avoid facing the healing process.

Coping is not a destination. Coping is like the doughnut tire we use when we get a flat; it’s a good option to get us through, but at some point, we must fix the flat.

Each home has experienced transition with the management team. Pray for unity and stability.

Each resident in our care has individual needs and struggles. They often struggle to get along with the other residents in the home. Pray for their continued healing and growth.

Please pray for the needed strength, wisdom and rest over each of our staff members!
