Summer is in full swing here at The Source! This means all the kids are on summer break and there is a dizzying array of activities - visits to the lake for swimming and fishing, the park, the bike trail, basketball, and the library fill the long summer days. Our goal is to give these kids a summer full of memories that will stay with them for a lifetime. This is only possible through lots of hard work and planning, along with a tremendous group of managers and staff who deeply care for the kids in our care. Currently, we are nearly at full capacity in all of our homes! This is an answer to prayer, and makes for busy days, but we consider ourselves to be blessed to have the opportunity to affect so many lives. To serve some of the most vulnerable in our region is a joyful challenge; yes, it is full of mess, struggle, and tears, but also an abundance of hope, life, and transformation. For the past couple of months, we have been intentional about sharing our "wins" here at The Source. We do this to keep ourselves focused on the positive and to encourage ourselves with the progress our kids are making. There were many "wins" but here are a few highlights: Many fish were caught! Residents are enjoying working out and getting fit. A successful visit to The Reptile Man at the library, complete with alligators and snakes! A resident went back to full-time in person school despite their nervousness. One of our kids began to participate in karaoke. An Idaho resident has been successful in finding a job and maintaining employment!
During the Summer months, we are always in need of some hands to staff the homes and facilitate all that is going on. In the last couple of months, two of our vehicles have gone kaput and are no longer usable. This means we are on the hunt for a couple of reliable vehicles to transport our kids through this summer and beyond.
